UAB Volleyball Welcomes FAU for Conference Series

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Volleyball returns to Bartow Arena, revisiting an old C-USA foe in the Florida Atlantic Owls. The Blazers come off two losses on the road against Memphis, resulting in a record of 2-19 and 0-9 in conference play.
The Green and Gold face an FAU squad that recently defeated the then-undefeated Rice Owls in five sets. The last two meetings between the two resulted in a split, where the Blazers fell to the Owls in five sets and a sweep to close out the 2022 series.

SCOUTING THE OWLS
Led by head coach Fernanda Nelson, the Owls enter their first year in the American after serving in Conference USA for ten years. The Blazers and Florida Atlantic hold a record of 2-7.
The Owls enter the week with a record of 12-9. They come off an upset over No. 1 Rice, who was previously undefeated. Three players finished with double-digit kills, with two players finishing with double-doubles in the match. In the Owl's last five matches, they have collected three wins total, holding a conference record of 4-4.
The Blazers welcome the Owls, who are ranked third in the AAC East. FAU ranks second in points and sixth in hitting percentage. When it comes to their passing, the Owls sit at the top of the list with 12.87 assists per set. FAU is led by setter, Victoria Hensley, who comes off a SoCon All-Freshman team honor in the 2022 season.
On the attacking front, the Owls rank second in kills with 1035 on the season. Averaging a .218 hitting percentage and 13.8 kills per set. Sophomore Ariana Beckham leads the team in the stat with 2.76 per set. On the defensive, Isabella Northam leads the team in digs with 325. Putting up a career-high 25 in the win against Rice, she averages 4.33 per set.
