Volleyball Travels to the Bluff City for AAC Meeting

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Volleyball travels to Memphis, Tennessee, taking on the Memphis Tigers. The Blazers come off back-to-back losses against UNT and Tulsa, continuing the AAC run versus the Tigers, who they have not faced since 2018.
The Blazers look to collect their first conference win of the season at Larry O. Finch Center. They finished the weekend with two athletes in double-digit kills, with Sophomore Kelsey Smith finishing with her first career triple-double. The Blazers held the Golden Hurricane to a hitting percentage of .182 and tallied 42 digs to Tulsa's 37.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
UAB and Memphis revisit after a five-year hiatus. The Tigers finished the last meeting on top with a straight-set victory over the Blazers in September 2018. In the past ten matchups between the two, UAB has tallied seven wins to Memphis' three. Overall, the Tigers lead the Blazers in the all-time record with 34 wins to UAB's 22.
The Tigers enter the week at 6-13, coming off a win over Tulane on October 8. They sit at a record of 2-5 in the AAC, ranking sixth in the AAC East. As a team, they rank sixth in the conference in service aces, averaging 1.51 per set. Rylee Busse places fifth in the conference in aces with an average of .39 per set and totals 25 on the season. Busse leads the team in aces, is ranked fifth in assists, and third in digs.
Defensively, the Tigers allowed 840 kills and a hitting percentage of .231. Abigail Schlueter leads the team in digs with 239. The freshman Libero/Defensive Specialist racked up 26 digs versus Toledo and ten assists versus FIU. She finished with a double-double in the Tiger's meeting against the Panthers. Clara Bednarek, a transfer from Georgia State, leads in blocks with 57 and is ranked second in kills with 133.
