BIRMINGHAM – In a chippy match that saw six yellow cards and a pair of red cards, UAB (4-4-5, 0-1-4 AAC) and UTSA (5-6-3, 0-3-2 AAC) ended its match with a 1-1 draw on Thursday night at PNC Field.
After a scoreless 1st half, Jolie St Louis got UAB on the board in the 50th minute on a give-and-go from Avery Berryman. St Louis put the ball in the lower left corner from 12 yards out.
UTSA got the equalizer in the 63rd minute. Avery Chaney's free kick found the head of Jordan Walker who sneaked the ball just inside the left pipe.
Seven minutes later, Canby Biddle received her second yellow card (equaling a red card) of the contest, which left the Blazers playing with 10 women for the remaining 23 minutes of the contest.
UTSA would receive a pair of yellow cards 12 seconds apart in the 78th minute and a second yellow from Sasjah Dade in the 89th minute as the contest ended 10-on-10.
"The red card changed everything, but even with 10 players we were fantastic," said head coach Lisa Mann.
Up next, it's UAB's Senior Day against Rice on Oct. 15. The Blazers will honor the nine student-athletes that comprise the UAB Women's Soccer Class of 2023 - Biddle, Eve Beyer, Morgan Halliwill, Sidney McGregor, Izzy Passman, Haley Skupa, Melina West, Jessica Wheeler and Asha Zuniga.
