BIRMINGHAM — The UAB Track & Field team concluded the first day of the Lenny Lyles invite with several PRs and notable performances for the Blazers.
"We had several good performances today," said head coach Kurt Thomas on the team's performance. "Lauren and Kathleen's 5K was good and fun to watch. Megan and Laney's pentathlon were good. Both were on PR pace and will be in a good spot for the conference."
The Blazers jumped out on day one with the pentathlon, where Megan-Hamilton Strong and Laney Kronz finished the 60m hurdles with PRs. Hamilton-Strong, who competed in the pentathlon in the Samford Multi-Invite just a week prior, finished with a seventh-place finish overall. She would complete the pentathlon with a personal best performance in the pentathlon with 3366 points.
In addition to the multis performances early in the day, distance finished with two top-five finishes in the women's 5K. Lauren Charlton and Kathleen Schellman finished second and fourth, setting personal bests with times of 17:10.30 and 17:14.63.
Keeping on pace with distance events, the Green and Gold performed in the distance medley relay, consisting of Sangie Lincoln-Velez, Regina Harris, Alicia Abalos Cervera, and Kyra Hayes. The ladies stayed on pace to finish third overall.
"The DMR got a good race in, and the hurdlers came out and got some good races in. We have several more events tomorrow and need to come out with great energy." said Thomas.
Turning to field events, Shauntia Landrum shined in the long jump with a season-best of 5.42m. In pole vault, Trinity Fellows tied with her personal best with a jump of 3.58m, her third meet that she bested her prior personal best.
