MBB Battles to 65-59 Win Over Louisiana Tech

BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's basketball (14-7, 5-5 C-USA) came back from a five-point halftime deficit to pick up a 65-59 win over Louisiana Tech (11-10, 4-6 C-USA). Four different Blazers finished in double figures.
The Blazers dominated in the paint, holding a 36-22 advantage over the Bulldogs. KJ Buffen put together a 11-point, 13-rebound double-double to lead UAB inside while Trey Jemison finished with 13 points, six boards and three blocks.
The Bulldogs led throughout the first half as the Blazers struggled on the offensive end, scoring only 25 points through the first 20 minutes. UAB trailed 30-25 at the break.
After falling behind by eight in the second half, the Blazers battled back with an 11-2 run to take their first lead since early in the first half. Trailing 40-39 with just under 13 minutes to go, Eric Gaines stole the ball on back-to-back possessions, each leading to a layup. Gaines scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half.
Tony Toney hit a critical three-pointer to put the Blazers up by eight with just four minutes to go, putting him in double figures at 11 points. Gaines followed it up with a three of his own to put the lead at nine and the Blazers would close it out for a 65-59 victory.
