RUSTON, La. β A late comeback fell short on Thursday night as LA Tech got by UAB 62-67 at the Thomas Assembly Center.

Denim DeShields led UAB (10-9, 2-8 C-USA) with 19-points. Destinee McGhee and Margaret Whitley each added 10-points.

Robyn Lee led Tech (12-8, 5-5 C-USA) with a game-high 20-points. Keiunna Walker scored 18.

UAB jumped out of the gates 11-2 in the game's first four minutes. They extended their lead to 11-points at 19-8 at the 2:37 mark. However, a 15-4 run by the Lady Techsters deadlocked the contest at 25-25 at 7:14 of the 2nd quarter. Two ties and two lead changes later, LA Tech would take a 39-35 advantage into halftime.

Tech would extend its lead to 14 points at 54-40 by the 2:39 mark of the 3rd quarter. UAB was able to close the gap to six points early in the 4th quarter and got even closer at the 3:24 mark on Whitley's 3-pointer which made the score 60-56. UAB traded a Techsters layup for a pair of Emily Klaczek free throws, which kept it a two possession contest.

On the next possession with 22 seconds remaining, Tech made 1-of-2 from the line, making the score 63-58. However, UAB came up with an empty possession and fouled on the Techsters ensuing ball. Brannon would make both foul shots putting Tech ahead 65-68 with 12.3 seconds left. DeShields would make a pair of free throw cutting the lead to five with six seconds remaining, but after a Tech timeout, Walker hit a layup. Sara Bershers closed out the scoring with a jumper at the buzzer.

The next game is Jan. 28 versus Rice at 1 p.m. This is UAB's Alumni Day. Additionally, $2 tickets are available for UAB faculty and staff, Gold Card holders receive a free soft drink and there will be a postgame shootaround for fans 12 and under.
