UAB Cross Country Gears Up for Lakefront Invitational

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Cross Country team returns to action with a road trip to Chicago as the team races at the 43rd Lakefront Invitational hosted by Loyola University Chicago. The Women's 6K is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at Montrose Harbor.
The invitational returns to action after a two-year absence, where its last race occurred in 2019. However, amidst the peak of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the race was canceled. The Ramblers announced in December of 2021 that the invitational would come back to the forefront, with 20 teams projected to participate.
"This meet will offer a great opportunity to compete against teams that we do not usually race. There are some very strong teams from the Midwest region we will get to stack up against," said head coach, Maryn Lowry. "I'm looking forward to the addition of Lauren Charlton to our line up. She has been patient since arriving on campus in August and we're excited to see what she can do. For Kyra Hayes, Anna Behmer, and Sangie Lincoln-Velez, it will be their first 6k. I'm looking forward to seeing how well they compete over this longer distance."
The Blazers come off of a 25th place finish in the North Alabama Showcase earlier in the month. Freshman Kyra Hayes finished with a time of 18:23.10, leading the pack for the team, followed by Lauren Robinson with a time of 18:45.30.
