Volleyball Hits the Road for Kennesaw State Matchup

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Volleyball Team heads to Kennesaw to take on the Kennesaw State Owls on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. CST/7 p.m. EST. The Blazers, who finished their weekend tournament with a record of 1-2, look to improve upon their performance.
The Blazers have played the majority of their matches at home. This will be their first time on the road since their season opener in Buffalo, where they played Xavier, Buffalo and Cleveland State.

SCOUTING THE OWLS
The Owls come off a weekend at the Maroon and White Invite hosted by Mississippi State, where they finished the weekend 1-2, dropping matches to Mississippi State and Houston. Prior to the tournament in Starkville, Kennesaw State went 4-1, only dropping one match to Wake Forest. Last season, the Owls finished the season 20-9 and lost in the semifinals at the ASUN conference tournament.
Junior McKinley Ferguson currently leads the owls in assists with 255, and second in aces with 12. On the defensive, Dani Ballou, Emma Schurfranz and Jasmine Brown all lead the way in blocks with 67, 65 and 70 respectively.
Of the two meetings between the Owls and Blazers, the series is split one apiece. The last meeting went into five sets, with KSU taking the win with a score of 15-12 in the deciding set.
