Men's Soccer Opens Regular Season at Home

GAME NOTES
BIRMINGHAM – To kick off the regular season, UAB men's soccer is set to take on College of Charleston to open play at the UAB Soccer for a Cure Classic at PNC Field at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 26.
OFFICIALLY AAC
Friday's match will be the Blazers' first official competition as a member of the American Athletic Conference. UAB men's soccer will compete in the AAC for the 2022 season, joining Charlotte, FAU and FIU as affiliate members.
SERIES HISTORY
The Blazers lead the all-time series over College of Charletson, 4-1, including a 2-0 advantage in Birmingham. Friday's meeting will be the first between the schools since 2013.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BLAZERS
The Blazers went 1-2 in exhibition play, falling to William Carey and Lipscomb while picking up a shutout victory over Belmont in Nashville.
RETURNING PRODUCTION
The Blazers return three of their top four goal scorers from the 2021 campaign in Nathaniel St. Louis, Brooks Rice and Curtis DeLeon. Also returning is Teodor Thorvaldsen who led the team with four assists.
WE'RE ALL FROM SOMEWHERE
UAB men's soccer has student-athletes from six states and eight different countries (Norway, Canada, Germany, Spain, Israel, Hungary, Austria). Alabama is the most well-represented state with nine Blazers and Norway is the most well-represented country outside of the U.S. with three players (Thorvaldsen, Love Groth, Overland).
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
College of Charleston returns eight field players who saw action in nine more games last season, including Kane Ritchie who led the team with five goals. Rio Murray (2 goals, team-high 4 assists) and Nick Burnz (2 goals) are also back.
