UAB Volleyball Receives USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

BIRMINGHAM - The United States Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced today the UAB volleyball team has earned the 2021-22 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award.
"We are thankful to the US Marine Corps and American Volleyball Coaches Association for recognizing our Student Athletes' success in the classroom this year," said head coach Betsy Freeburg. "Winning this award takes a lot of hard work, and we are proud of our team for the effort they give towards their studies."
The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
"This is a total team accomplishment as we had 13 members of our program receive over a 3.0 GPA throughout the 2021-22 school year. Of those 13, seven student-athletes received a 3.5 of higher and four a 4.0. We are thankful for Caroline Cumbest and our Student Athlete Services department for their support leading to our team's success in the classroom. Achieving this award is becoming a standard of UAB Volleyball, and we love celebrating these accomplishments."
This marks the sixth time and second consecutive year UAB has been honored for the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award.
Volleyball season tickets are on sale by purchasing the 2021-22 Gold Card for $65 here. The 2021-22 Gold Card will get you access to all home events for Women's Soccer, Men's Soccer, Volleyball, Women's Basketball, Softball, and Baseball (Regions Field & Young Memorial). This card is not valid for Conference USA or NCAA Championship events.
