UAB Football, Men’s Basketball Commercials Win EMMYs

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB football and men's basketball teams' commercials for the 2021 and 2021-22 season were named EMMY award winners on Saturday night.
The football commercial launched on Aug. 23 and starts by paying tribute to the past and those who paved the way for today's accomplishments. It transitions into a message that despite winning championships and moving into a brand-new stadium, those milestones are not the finish line, but just the start of something new.
The men's basketball commercial, which was already tabbed a National Gold ADDY winner earlier this month, launched on Nov. 4 and starts by celebrating UAB's extensive men's basketball success including highlights from key moments in UAB basketball history. It then transitions into a message of a resurgence of the UAB program under alumnus and head coach Andy Kennedy, who helped re-establish the "Bartow Standard" with UAB's sixth conference tournament title and 16th trip to the NCAA Tournament in March.

UAB is coming off a 9-4 season and ended the year with a 31-28 victory over No. 13 BYU in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl. The Blazers return seven starters on offense and nine starters or co-starters on defense. UAB has 43 wins over the last five years, which is the most of any team in Conference USA.

Jordan Walker, Trey Jemison, Tavin Lovan and KJ Buffen, all key contributors to UAB's Conference USA Tournament championship run in March, will return for the Blazers in 2022-23.
UAB also added six new Blazers to the 2022-23 roster, five of which were from the transfer portal. Eric Gaines (LSU), Javian Davis (Mississippi State), Ledarrius and Ty Brewer (ETSU), and Tyler Bertram (Binghamton) comprise the five student-athletes UAB and Kennedy have added through the transfer portal since March 30. The Blazers will also add in-state high school standout Efrem "Butta" Johnson to the 2022-23 roster.
