UAB Travels to Troy for Final Midweek Game of 2022 Season

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB baseball team will travel to Troy to take on the Trojans in a Tuesday morning matchup. First pitch at Riddle-Pace Field is set for 10:30 a.m.

UAB (29-21, 12-15 C-USA) went 2-2 this past week, earning an 8-4 in extra innings at Alabama State before winning in its home finale on Sunday against FIU. With their win on Sunday, the Blazers clinched their berth in the Conference USA Tournament as the eight seed. UAB's trip to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, will mark the Blazers' first trip to the postseason since 2018.
Head coach Casey Dunn also notched win No. 29 in Sunday's Senior Day victory, which ranks first in UAB history for a first-year head coach. The Blazers can reach the 30-win mark in Tuesday's matchup against the Trojans, a milestone last hit in 2015.
Second baseman John Marc Mullins put together a stellar weekend at the plate against FIU, going 7-for-12 (.583) with six runs scored, two RBI, five walks and two stolen bases. Mullins upped his batting average and on-base percentage to .327 and .433, respectively, both of which rank second on the team.
Christian Hall continues to lead the Blazers in batting average (.372), slugging percentage (.591), OPS (1.039) and on-base percentage (.448). Josh Sears surpassed 100 total bases this past weekend, hammering his team-high 14th home run in Sunday's 14-4 win over the Panthers.
On the mound, UAB ranks third in Conference USA with a 4.44 ERA. Eight UAB pitchers have notched multiple pitching victories this season, including four with three wins or more. Dalton Skinner will make his first start of the season for the Blazers in Tuesday morning's matchup at Riddle-Pace Field.
Troy (29-21, 13-14 Sun Belt) has lost seven straight games, dropping a pair of weekend series to two of the top three teams in the Sun Belt, Georgia Southern and Coastal Carolina. The Trojans also fell to Auburn in a home midweek matchup on Tuesday.
Offensively, Donovan Whibbs leads the Trojans with a .312 batting average and five triples. Four Trojans have tallied 10 or more doubles, while Easton Kirk paces Troy with eight home runs. On the mound, the Trojans rank fifth in the Sun Belt with a 4.98 ERA and first in the league with 478 strikeouts.
UAB leads the series 30-26, but the Trojans hold a 14-11 advantage over the Blazers in games played in Troy.
