BIRMINGHAM- The UAB track and field team is geared and ready to compete in the 2022 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in San Antonio, TX, hosted by UTSA. Tickets are $10 for adults (ages 18 and up) and $5 for youth (ages 3-17) each day beginning on Friday. Admission on Thursday is free. Parking is available at no cost in the lot located on Kyle Seale Parkway immediately south of the facility.
"This is the culmination of our entire year," said head coach Kurt Thomas. "The ladies have worked so hard and improved from XC to indoor to outdoor and we are ready to compete at our best for the C-USA Championships in San Antonio. We have opportunities to score points in several different events. We need athletes to step up and perform to their abilities. We believe in our ladies and I believe we'll have a good meet. Laney Kronz will get us rolling with the Heptathlon on Thursday. Birthe Franck-Petersen and Haley Dempsey will compete next in the hammer on Friday, and Laura Thompson will be in the 10k. Saturday is all the prelims of running events where we're trying to qualify for finals the next day. Our jumpers and vaulters are doing well and we hope to score some points in all of those areas. It's an exciting meet and we'll be ready."
Senior Anna Massa is currently tied for 29th nationally in the pole vault, and her 4.20m mark is 1st in Conference USA. Freshman Kat Duren is 2nd in Conference USA in the 100m hurdles. Senior Lisa Petkov ranks 6th in Conference USA in the 400m hurdles, and the 400m dash. Fellow senior Ebony Tolliver is right behind Petkov in the 400m dash, ranking 7th. The UAB 4x100 relay team is currently 4th in the conference. Laney Kronz is ranked 5th overall in the heptathlon. Shauntia Landrum is 9th in the triple jump.
