UAB Travels to Tuscaloosa Sunday for Match at Alabama

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's tennis team will travel to Tuscaloosa on Sunday for a showdown against Alabama at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. First serve is set for 6 p.m.

UAB LATELY
UAB (7-12) split a pair of road matches this past week against in-state opponents, earning a dominant 6-1 win at Samford before falling 5-2 at Alabama State in Montgomery.
In UAB's win over Samford, the Blazers opened the match with a victory in doubles to take a 1-0 lead. Chase Parker and Parker Bradbary notched a 7-6 (11-9) win on court two to break a 1-1 tie and put the Blazers ahead.
UAB then won five of six singles matches to secure its 6-1 victory. Michal Lusovsky, Roman Postolka and Martin Vasquez all won in straight sets to seal the Blazers' seventh victory of the season. Vojtech Podzemny and Noah Malige both rallied from a setback in set one to post 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 wins, respectively.
Despite the 5-2 loss at Alabama State, Lusovsky and Postolka kept their individual winning streaks alive with wins on courts one and three. Lusovsky, a 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 winner on court one, has won back-to-back matches and holds an 8-2 record in his past 10 singles appearances. Postolka, who earned a 6-1, 6-4 win on court three, has tallied wins in four straight matches and 10 of his previous 11 singles matchups for the Blazers.
The Blazers are 4-23 against Alabama in program history, posting their most recent win over the Crimson Tide on Feb. 20, 2000. Alabama swept UAB 7-0 earlier this season on Feb. 5 in Tuscaloosa.
ALABAMA
Alabama (7-16) has struggled in conference play after earning all seven of its victories in nonconference play, earning wins over Mercer, Samford, UAB, Nebraska, Drake, Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech this season.
Two Alabama student-athletes have winning records in singles play this season, highlighted by ace Filip Planinsek, who is 19-11 overall and 12-9 on court one this spring. Enzo Aguiard holds a 16-14 record in singles play, playing most of his matches on court two this season for the Crimson Tide. Alabama is 8-34 in singles matches against SEC opponents.
In doubles, the Crimson Tide hold an even 45-45 record with Planinsek and Patrick Kaukovalta holding a team-best 6-1 record. Planinsek and Kaukovalta have won six straight doubles matches and are 5-0 this season on court one.
