BIRMINGHAM – Looking to keep its momentum going from last week's Carolina Challenge, the UAB beach volleyball team heads to Atlanta this Friday and Saturday, April 8-9, for the GSU Diggin' Duals.
The weekend is highlighted by playing No. 13 Georgia State, which will be the 13th ranked team UAB has played this season. The Blazers will also face Austin Peay, Chattanooga and the University of Tampa in Atlanta.
UAB enters the tournament at 8-15 overall but won 3-of-4 matches last weekend, which included defeating No. 19 Stetson for the program's fourth victory over a nationally ranked opponent.
Rachel Tam and Adriana Pereira are the reigning Conference USA Pair of the Week after a perfect 4-0 outing in Columbia. The duo won all four of their matches in straight sets and defeated the top pairs from No. 14 South Carolina and No. 19 Stetson.
The tandem has played every match together this season on court one and boasts an overall record of 11-11. Tam is four wins shy of becoming UAB's career leader in court one victories.
Ella Alexander and Jessica Ennis also had an unblemished weekend at South Carolina, going 4-0 on court five. Alexander owns a team-best 13-10 overall record and is approaching some single season UAB records with three tournaments remaining.
UAB opens this weekend's tournament with Austin Peay on Friday at 11 a.m., followed by playing Chattanooga that afternoon at 5 p.m. Saturday features UAB vs. Tampa at 10 a.m. and Georgia State at 3 p.m.
