UAB Prepares to Host Crosstown Rival Samford

BIRMINGHAM- After going 0-2 this past weekend against #1 Oklahoma, UAB softball will host cross-town rival Samford University in a midweek home game. UAB is 32-6 all-time against the Bulldogs. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. CT Wednesday night at Mary Bowers Field.
UAB LATELY
The Blazers (20-13, 8-1) are looking to get back to their winning ways, after an upset bid against the top ranked Sooners fell short last Saturday. Freshman Bella Wiggins leads the Blazers in batting average with a .341 percentage, Lilly Crowe leads the squad in homeruns with four including a grand slam, and Sierra Frazier paces UAB with 26 RBIs. Sarah Cespedes (8-3) is coming off a strong performance this past weekend, holding the nation's top hitting team to six hits on Saturday. UAB is currently ranked first in Conference USA.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Samford (18-14, 3-0) is coming off a successful outing against Mercer, the Bulldogs won all three games versus the Bears. Mary Katherine Tedder leads Samford in slugging percentage with a .684 mark, and Timberlyn Shurbutt has the team lead in home runs with 6. McKenzie Newcomb (13-7) is the Bulldogs top pitcher, with 113 strikeouts.
