STARKVILLE- The UAB track and field team wrapped up its 2022 outdoor regular season competition at the Maroon and White Invite hosted by Mississippi State.
The Blazers had seven top-10 finishes, one event win, and three PRs.
Lisa Petkov placed first in the 400m hurdles, which was also a seasonal best for her, and she is currently ranked 38th in NCAA East Qualifying (top 48 from East qualify for NCAAs).
"We ended the regular season with some very good performances," said head coach Kurt Thomas. "It's been a hard two weeks of finals, so everyone is in a different place, but our girls came out here and competed very well. Karlien Botha 's PRs in the discus were big improvements and the 200m girls ran well Friday night. If we iron out some things for the 4x100, they'll run fast. Kat Duren had a great hurdle race for the 2nd best time of her life. Erin Long and Ebony Tolliver sprinted well in the 100m. Shauntia Landrum had a big jump weekend with PRs in the long jump and a huge improvement in the triple jump. Maira Gauges, Hailey Dempsey and Maya McDanal threw the javelin well too. Overall we're pleased and headed in the right direction going into conference. We'll train and try to fix some things and get ready for C-USAs in two weeks."
The Blazers will now be shifting their focus to the 2022 C-USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted in San Antonio, Texas on May 12-15th.
