UAB Wins Three Matches on Day One of Blazer Beach Bash

BIRMINGHAM β The UAB beach volleyball team won all three of its matches on the opening day of the Blazer Beach Bash Friday at the UAB Beach Volleyball Courts.

UAB (14-16, 3-4 C-USA) opened the day with a 3-2 league victory over ULM, and followed that up with two consecutive 5-0 victories over North Alabama and Mercer.

The partners of Ella Alexander and Jessica Ennis, Naomi Ortiz and Emma Andraka and Arden Copping and Mikayla Law-Heese were all 3-0 today. In the process, Ella Alexander tied the school record for single season wins with 19. She now has a team-best 19-11 overall record and looks to become the first player in school history to win 20 games in a single season.

The Blazers also honored their three seniors in Jenna Gathright, Dylynn Otte and Rachel Tam on Friday as they all went 2-1. Tam is now 17-12 on court one as she adds to her school record of career and single season court one wins with each victory.

UAB is back in action on Saturday against Mercer to conclude the Blazer Beach Bash. First serve is tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m., but due to weather in the area it could be adjusted.
