UAB to Host Blazer Beach Bash This Friday and Saturday

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB beach volleyball returns to Birmingham this weekend, Friday and Saturday April 15-16, to host the Blazer Beach Bash at its on-campus beach courts.
With weather moving in on Saturday, the schedule has been adjusted slightly as UAB will play three matches on Friday and one on Saturday.
Friday, April 15
9 a.m. – ULM vs. Mercer
11 a.m. – UAB vs. ULM
1 p.m. – Mercer vs. UNA
3 p.m. – UAB vs. UNA
5. p.m. – UAB vs. Mercer
Saturday, April 16
9 a.m. – UNA vs. ULM
11 a.m. – UAB vs. Mercer
UAB (11-16) has won six of their last eight matches and are playing their best volleyball of the season. Rachel Tam and Adriana Pereira lead the way on court one as the duo has set the single season court one wins record at UAB (15), while Tam became the career court one wins leader last weekend. In two seasons, Tam has played every match of her career on court one and is 29-24 overall.
Ella Alexander is also putting together a record-breaking season as she anchors the back of UAB's lineup. Alexander has a team-best 16 wins this season and is four wins shy of becoming the first player in school history to reach 20 wins in a single season.
Friday's 5 p.m. match will be Senior Day as the Blazers say farewell to Tam, Dylynn Otte and Jenna Gathright. Tam and Otte came to UAB has grad transfer, while Gathright has been at UAB all four years of her career and ranks top 10 in total wins (37).
Following the Blazer Beach Bash, UAB heads to the Conference USA Tournament where they will compete for a berth into the NCAA National Championship.
