UAB Baseball Comeback Falls Short versus Alabama A&M

BIRMINGHAM — The UAB baseball team fell to Alabama A&M on Saturday afternoon at Young Memorial Field, 11-9. The Blazers fall to 7-3 on the season.

John Marc Mullins recorded five hits (5-for-5) in the contest with a walk and two runs scored. Mullins is the first Blazer since Tyler Tolbert in 2019 to record five hits in a game. Floyd hit two home runs in back-to-back at bats. The senior outfielder is the first Blazer to do so since Colton Schultz in 2021 at Marshall.

In the bottom of the first, Josh Sears hit his third home run of the season for a two-run dinger to right to take the lead 2-0.

Alabama A&M (1-7) responded in the top of the second to tie the game at two runs. The Bulldogs added a pair of runs in the third on a home run by Janmikell Bastardo to take the 4-2 lead.

Floyd cut the Bulldog lead to one on a solo homer to left center in the bottom of the third.

Alabama A&M used a six run fourth inning to increase its lead to 10-3.

The Blazers responded in the bottom of the fourth on a Matthew Golda two-run triple and Sears RBI single to cut the lead to 10-6. Floyd hit his second home run of the game in the fifth to bring the score to 10-7.

UAB continued to cut into the Alabama A&M lead in sixth. With bases loaded, Floyd was hit by a pitch to drive in a run. Brandon Willoughby was also walked with the bases juiced, cutting the lead to one, 10-9.

The Bulldogs added its final run in the eight on an RBI single by Chandler Stocking for the two-run advantage, 11-9.

The Blazers are back for the series finale versus Alabama A&M on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Young Memorial Field.
