UAB Baseball Tops Alabama A&M, 12-5

As a team, the Blazers tallied 18 hits. Caleb Floyd and Matthew Golda both recorded three hits in the contest. Christian Hall and Brandon Willoughby recorded three RBIs.
Jackson Reynolds (1-0, 2.04 ERA) picked up his first win after tossing 6.2 innings, allowing three runs and one earned run on six hits. In all three starts this season, Reynolds has recorded seven strikeouts. The right-handed pitcher had a streak of 16 batter retired in a row from the second inning to the seventh.
The Blazers opened the scoring in the second inning. With bases loaded, Josh Sears hit a single through the left side to drive in two runs for the early 2-0 lead.
In the fifth, Golda hit the first of four UAB home runs in the game. Later in the inning, Floyd came around to score on a throwing error by the Alabama A&M catcher for the 4-0 advantage.
The sixth innings saw a two-run home run by John Marc Mullins and a three-run pinch-hit homer by Hall. Willoughby hit a RBI single to add the sixth run off the inning to increase the lead to 10-0.
Alabama A&M (0-7) broke up the shutout in the seventh, bringing in three runs to cut the Blazer lead to 10-3.
Willoughby added insurance runs for the Blazers on a two-run home run to left center.
The Bulldogs tallied two runs in the top of the ninth to bring the score to its final of 12-5.
The Blazers are back for game two of the series versus Alabama A&M on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Young Memorial Field.
