BIRMINGHAM – The UAB baseball team will play two midweek games in Birmingham this week at Samford on Tuesday night and against Birmingham-Southern in the inaugural Rickwood College Classic on Wednesday afternoon.
The Blazers (15-7) and Bulldogs (12-9) face off for the first time this season on Tuesday, March 29, at 6 p.m. as head coach Casey Dunn plays his former team for the first time.
UAB then turns around the next day to face Birmingham-Southern at Rickwood Field for a game at one of the most historic and famed baseball fields in the country. Birmingham-Southern is currently 18-5 overall and ranks top five nationally in the Division III polls. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
All tickets (including UAB and Birmingham-Southern students) to the Rickwood College Classic are $10 general admission and can only be purchased on the day of the game at the Rickwood box office.
UAB is coming off its first series loss of the season after dropping 2-of-3 to Middle Tennessee, however, the Blazers have won six of their last nine contests and are just three wins away from matching their entire wins total from last season.
Christian Hall continues to lead UAB at the plate with a .403 batting average, while Brandon Willoughby hit the walk-off home run to give UAB the win on Sunday against Middle Tennessee.
Closer Collin Taylor picked up a save against Alabama and the win against Middle Tennessee last week. He boasts a 0.90 ERA and has three saves this season. Collectively, the Blazer pitching staff has a 4.31 ERA, led by Jackson Reynolds who has six starts this season with a 2.86 ERA.
Following UAB's midweek contests, the Blazers remain in Birmingham to host a Conference USA series with Marshall on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 1-3.
