BIRMINGHAM- The UAB track and field team will be opening its 2022 outdoor season in Atlanta, Georgia for the Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by Georgia Tech at the George C. Griffin Track.
The meet will begin at 12:30 p.m. ET on Friday. Saturday's events begin at 12:00 p.m. ET.
"We are ready to open our outdoor season." Said head coach Kurt Thomas. "Outdoors has several events that we don't have indoors like the javelin, 4x100m relay, Hammer, Steeplechase, and we have athletes that we believe can be good really good in them. With this first meet, we are getting our feet wet with those events, getting athletes into some off events like a short sprint for a 400m runner or getting used to the javelin or steeplechase. So we're looking for our ladies to compete hard, work on executing these new events and get some good competition in to start our outdoor season."
INDOOR RECAP
UAB enjoyed a successful indoor season, with dozens of PRs, three new school records, and two podium finishes at the C-USA Indoor Championships. Birthe Franck-Petersen placed 8th overall among 29 others in the women's shot put. Makiyah Sills placed 5thin the 60m hurdles, and Kat Duren placed second overall and captured a silver medal. Maira Gauges placed 6th overall in the women's pentathlon.
