UAB Men's Tennis Travels to Alabama on Saturday

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's tennis team will hit the road this weekend for a match at Alabama on Saturday at 6 p.m. Saturday's match in Tuscaloosa will be played at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility.
UAB was originally scheduled to open its weekend at South Alabama, but Friday's match in Mobile was moved to Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m.
Live stats and live streaming will be available for UAB's match on Saturday against the Crimson Tide.
UAB LATELY
UAB (1-1) notched its first victory of the season in convincing fashion on Sunday, earning a 6-1 home triumph over North Alabama. The Blazers opened Sunday's action with a win in doubles, putting UAB up 1-0 entering singles. Michal Lusovsky and Thanos Spyropoulos clinched the doubles point for the Blazers with a decisive 6-3 win on court one.
In singles, Vojtech Podzemny quickly moved to 2-0 on the season with a 6-1, 6-0 win over North Alabama's Nazar Fedoryshyn. Spyropoulos and Lusovsky then clinched the match for UAB with 6-3, 6-3 and 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) wins, respectively, on courts two and one.
Roman Postolka recorded a 6-4, 6-2 win on court three, while Nikola Puric registered UAB's final win of the afternoon with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph on court six. Martin Vasquez dropped a tight decision to UNA's Guilherme Diniz 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (13-11) to conclude Sunday's action.
The Blazers are 4-22 against Alabama in program history, posting their most recent win over the Crimson Tide on Feb. 20, 2000.
ALABAMA LATELY
Alabama (2-3) has dropped three straight matches after opening the season 2-0 with wins over Mercer and Samford. Alabama's past three losses have all come to SEC opponents, including a tight 4-3 loss to No. 18 Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi.
The Crimson Tide return two players from this past year's team – senior Patrick Kaukovalta and sophomore Rudi Christiansen. Three freshmen have helped pace Alabama so far this season, including freshman Filip Planinsek, who holds a 10-2 overall record after going 7-2 during the fall season.
Alabama student-athletes hold a 50-42 overall record in singles play and a 26-23 record in doubles action during the 2021-22 season.
