BIRMINGHAM – The UAB beach volleyball team opened the season 0-4 at the Seminole Beach Bash, which included three losses to nationally ranked teams hosted by Florida State in Tallahassee.
The Blazers suffered a pair of 5-0 losses to top 10 teams on Saturday, falling to No. 3 Florida State and No. 6 TCU in straight sets.
UAB then suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to North Florida in the first of two matches on Sunday.
After UNF took courts three and five, the Blazers evened the score at 2-2 with a three set victory on court one from Rachel Tam and Adriana Pereira, along with a three set victory on court four by Jessica Ennis and Ella Alexander.
With the match tied, it came down to a third and final set on court two. Unfortunately, Dylynn Otte and Mikayla Law-Heese came up just short, 15-13, as UNF secured the team victory.
In the afternoon match against No. 13 Florida Atlantic, the Blazers saw courts four and five go three sets, but the Owls won both and ultimately took the match, 5-0.
UAB returns to action next weekend at the Tiger Beach Challenge at LSU where the Blazers will face Southern Miss, Stephen F. Austin, No. 4 Loyola Marymount, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Texas A&M Kingsville.
