BIRMINGHAM- Track and field had another successful outing in the Samford Open on Saturday. 10 Blazers set PR's, and the day was highlighted by Anna Massa, who set a new school record in the indoor pole vault with a 4.15m vault. This mark also tied for the top spot in Conference USA.
"We had a good ending to the regular season." Said Coach Kurt Thomas. "Lots of PRs across the board and good execution of events. That's what we wanted heading into conference. Anna's school record was a huge thing for the team. That's a huge mark and tied for tops on CUSA. Both Danice Loney and Julianne Manning tied PRs which was a great bonus. The 200m girls sprinted well again with Kaylie Wright and Lisa Petkov getting some nice PRs. Laura Thompson had a great mile race which gives her confidence for next week. The ladies have done their job up to this point, and we'll be ready to do it again next week at C-USAs."
Anna Massa's record was the third school record set by a Blazer so far this season. Kat Duren placed third overall in the 60m hurdles. The 4x4 relay team recorded a season best time with a 3:53.46 finish.
Track and field will host and compete in the Conference USA Indoor Championships next weekend at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
