BIRMINGHAM- The track and field team will be competing this Saturday in the Samford Open at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Events will begin at 10am, and last all day.
"We are ready for our final regular season meet before the indoor championships." Said Coach Kurt Thomas. "There is lots of good competition in each event and our team has been able to compete at a high level. We want to continue to improve in all events and keep positioning ourselves to score lots of points at C-USAs the following week. The long jumpers, throwers and vaulters have been trending in the right direction, with Birthe's school record throws and lots of vault PRs last week. The sprinters and hurdlers are ready to continue their good sprinting too. We are trying to get fully healthy and get some more athletes involved with competition this weekend. We're excited to see what they are going to do."
The last time out, UAB had an excellent showing in Massachusetts at the Harvard Crimson Elite Invitational, and the Boston University Scarlet and White Invitational. 14 Blazers set personal records, and Kat Duren and Birthe Franck-Petersen each set a new school record.
Schools competing on Saturday include Alabama A&M, Birmingham Southern, Louisiana Tech, North Alabama, Samford, Troy, UL Monroe, and many others.
