Walker, Buffen Lead UAB to Win Over South Alabama

BIRMINGHAM – Jordan Walker led UAB men's basketball (7-1) to a 76-68 win over South Alabama (3-6) with 30 points and eight assist. KJ Buffen recorded his second double-double of the year with 15 points and 10 boards. The Blazers overcame a poor shooting day with a season-low .410 from the field.
The Blazers struggled to put points on the board in the first half, shooting only .324 (11-34) from the field. However, Walker kept UAB within striking distance. Jelly scored or assisted 18 of the Blazers 29 first half points.
UAB led by as many as seven in the first half but South Alabama outscored the Blazers 19-10 over the final 10 minutes of the half to take a 31-29 lead into the locker room. The two-point deficit marked the first time UAB has trailed at the half this season.
Jordan Walker got the Blazers off to a quick start in the second half, this time as a distributor. On UAB's first two possessions, he assisted Trey Jemison and KJ Buffen's dunks to put UAB back out in front.
Despite a back-and-forth second half, Buffen, Lovan and Walker helped the Blazers close it out. The trio scored 35 of the Blazers 47 second half points, including 22 of the final 25 points over the last 9:33. Despite the slow start, the Blazers were able to move to 7-1 with a 76-68 win over South Alabama.

- The Blazers finished with fewer than 80 points for the first time this season.
- UAB shot a season-low .410 (25-61) from the field.
- Walker has scored 30 points in a game for the third time this season. He is now tied with Carlos Williams for second in UAB history with six 30+ point games, trailing only Andy Kennedy.
- Jelly's eight assists mark his best total since recording 12 against Rice (2/17/22).
- KJ Buffen finished with his second double-double of the season with a season-high 15 points.
- Buffen has grabbed five offensive rebounds in each of the last two games.
- In three years under Andy Kennedy, the Blazers have started seasons 7-1 or better twice. Prior to his arrival the Blazers has start 7-1 or better only twice since 1993-94 when Gene Bartow made his final NCAA Tournament appearance with the Blazers.
