DeShields Named C-USA Rookie of the Week

BIRMINGHAM – After leading UAB to an overtime victory at Valparaiso and a second place finish at the Goombay Splash, Denim DeShields was named Conference USA Rookie of the Week.
DeShields averaged 19.7 points per game, connected on 23 field goals including seven 3-pointers in the three games last week.
Against Valpo, she scored 20 points on 8-17 shooting and was a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc in the Blazers' 83-81 overtime victory on Nov. 21.
In UAB's 83-74 victory over George Mason, DeShields scored a career-high 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting, with three 3-pointers.
She followed-up with a 14-point effort against No. 12/13 LSU, who boasted the NCAA's second-best defense heading into the contest.
Up next, UAB faces Western Carolina (3-3) on Dec. 3 in Cullowhee, N.C. The Blazers return home on Dec. 13 against Miles.
