Volleyball Returns to Sunshine State for Weekend C-USA Matchups
10/6/2022 9:16:00 AM | Women's Volleyball
BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Volleyball team came off of a 3-2 win last Friday over Middle Tennessee and had a light weekend with Sunday off. However, it was time well spent to rest and prepare to hit the road again as UAB takes on C-USA opponents, Florida International and Florida Atlantic on Friday Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. and Sunday October 9 at 11:00 a.m.
"The day in between matches provides a great chance for us to refocus and prepare for our next opponent both mentally and physically," said head coach, Betsy Freeburg on the results of last week and preparing for this week. "We will do some recovery and mobility as well as a new scouting report and short practice to address anything we need from Friday's match as we go into Sunday's."
UAB played in Florida earlier this season against Florida State and FAMU, where the series was split. This will be the second trip to the Sunshine state, only this time, the matches count towards the conference record.
UAB (7-8, 2-1 C-USA) at Florida International (3-14, 0-4 C-USA)

SCOUTING THE OWLS
Florida Atlantic came off a weekend taking on UTSA and Rice, where they finished the weekend 2-3 against the Roadrunners and 1-3 against the Owls. FAU still sits above .500 overall in the 2022 season but dropped four matches in conference play.
On the team leader board, outside hitter Valeria Rosado is the front runner in kills with 201 as of Oct. 2. Rosado, who previously played at Stephen F. Austin, was named to the WAC All-Conference Freshman team where she led the Ladyjacks in kills with 142. She joins FAU picking up where she left off in her second collegiate season, holding the fifth-place spot in the conference in kills.

The Owls have a total of five athletes ranked in the top 10 in stat leaders across C-USA rankings.
QUOTES FROM COACH FREEBURG
"Over the last 2 weeks, you can really see our team growing and getting in a rhythm. We have been able to string together great practices, and our confidence is growing there which is translating to the court."
"We were really poised and composed in tough moments on Friday. Each player brought their gifts to the team, and never stopped believing in themselves and one another."
