UAB Rifle Continues Spring Season Saturday at Wofford

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB rifle team will continue the spring portion of its 2021-22 schedule Saturday when the Blazers travel to Spartanburg, South Carolina, for a match at Wofford. Saturday's match against the Terriers is set to begin at 7:45 a.m. CT.
The Blazers will send five student-athletes to this weekend's match – seniors Sophia Flores and Jordan Blankenship and juniors Tommy Loring, Amy Kohan and Maggie Vonderau.
Kohan paced the Blazers in both of their matches this past weekend, setting a season-high individual aggregate score of 1,162 in consecutive matches as UAB opened its spring season at Murray State and UT-Martin. UAB posted a season-high smallbore score of 2,272 in this past Friday's match at Murray State. The Blazers also combined to tally their second-best aggregate score of 4,572 in Murray, Kentucky.
Kohan then led the Blazers again on Saturday at UT-Martin, posting team-best tallies of 573 in the smallbore, 589 in the air rifle and 1,162 in the combined individual aggregate. Kohan's 1,162 overall points helped her finish first among all individual competitors in Saturday's match at UT-Martin.
Blankenship's 1,134 points in Saturday's match at UT-Martin marked a season-high. Her season-best tally of 580 points in the air rifle helped lead her to a season-high individual aggregate score.
Wofford, who holds an 0-4 record this season, will open the spring portion of its schedule against the Blazers on Saturday. UAB defeated the Terriers 4,547-3,243 on Oct. 30 behind strong performances from Kohan, Flores and Vonderau.
Following Saturday's match, the Blazers will compete in their final regular season match at Jacksonville State on Feb. 5. UAB's regular season finale is set to begin at 8 a.m. at the Gamecock Rifle Range.
