Track and Field Set to Compete in Samford Invite

BIRMINGHAM- The UAB track and field team will compete in the Samford Invitational this Friday, at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The meet will begin at 9 AM and last the entire day.
"We are ready to get back to the track and get back to competing again." Said Coach Kurt Thomas. "We were pleased with the way the girls opened up and competed but saw places where everyone can keep getting better. That's what we're focused on, getting better each week. More of the distance athletes will start competing this weekend so we're looking for good races from them. The vaulters had a good week of practice, so we look to have them clear some good bars. The Sprinters looked sharp last weekend and we want to add some 200m races, 4x4 relays to see where we are there. We're in a good spot but need to continue competing hard and getting better."
Track and field has enjoyed a strong start to the season, with several athletes winning events and setting records, and many others setting PRs. Lisa Petkov won the 500m at the Blazer Invitational, and at the BSC Icebreaker in December, Anna Massa won the pole vault, Kat Duren won the 60m hurdles, and Kaylie Wright won the long jump.
