UAB Track and Field Opens 2022 With Blazer and Vulcan Invitationals
1/11/2022 4:03:00 PM | Women's Track & Field
BIRMINGHAM- The UAB Track and Field team will have its first two meets of 2022 in Birmingham, in the 11thannual Blazer Invitational on Friday and the seventh annual Vulcan Invitational on Saturday. Both events will be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
"We get so excited to host the Blazer and Vulcan Invites each year." Coach Kurt Thomas said. "This is always one of the better opening season meets in the country each year and this year is no exception. Friday's meet has lots of great competition, All-Americans, Conference champs from the SEC, Sunbelt, C-USA, and others. We have several professional athletes opening their season including 400m Olympic Gold medalist Steven Gardiner.
As for our team, we are in a good place to start our season. Lots of the girls are fit, but we need to get competition sharp. We are looking for the girls to come out, compete hard and execute races, jumps, throws. This can set the tempo for the rest of our season. Our goal is the C-USA Meet in February, so this is where we need to start and get our competition juices going."
Both meets will features dozens of schools, from Conferences such as the SEC, C-USA, and ACC.
