BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's golf team opens the 2021-22 season this Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 20-21, looking to defend its title at the Scenic City Collegiate hosted by Chattanooga at The Honors Course.
This is one of the three tournaments UAB won a season ago, which matched a school record for most tournament victories in a single season. Four of the five Blazers participating this week were in the lineup for last year's Scenic City Collegiate.
"After a great first few weeks of the semester I'm really excited to be teeing it up at the Honors course this week," said head coach Matt Whall. "The guys have impressed me so much so far and I can't wait to see what they can do under tournament conditions. The course is a great challenge and needs to be treated with respect. I'm looking to see the guys set the tone for the year this weekend."
Head Coach Matt Whall will be coaching his first tournament as a Blazer. He is fielding a lineup that features Nick Robillard, Khavish Varadan, Alfix Fox, Ethan Hagood and John Snoddy.
Robillard and Varadan return to lead the Blazers after posting the top two stroke averages on the team last year of 72.1 and 72.3, respectively. Robillard is the reigning C-USA Golfer of the Year, while Varadan was Second Team All-Conference USA a season ago.
UAB is one of 14 teams in the field this weekend, including Augusta, Chattanooga, Clemson, ETSU, Georgia, Kennesaw State, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee, UNC Greensboro, Vanderbilt and Virginia.
The course will play par 72 and 7,290 yards with 36 holes scheduled for Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Live results for the tournament can be found by clicking here. Updates are also available by following @UAB_MGOLF on Twitter and Instagram.
