LAST TIME OUT
UAB fell to Memphis in another edition of the Battle of the Bones rivalry on Saturday night at BBVA Field. After 33 minutes of scoreless action, an own goal off a Memphis corner kickstarted the Tigers' offense.
The Tigers doubled their lead less than seven minutes later to take a 2-0 advantage into halftime. Memphis scored off a counterattack to push its lead to 3-0 before senior forward Nathaniel St. Louis scored his team-best third goal of the season via a penalty kick to push the game to its final margin at 3-1.
UAB fired nine shots, five of which were on target, in the setback to the Tigers. St. Louis paced the Blazers with four shots and three shots on goal. Goalkeeper Trevor Jackson made five saves after making back-to-back starts for the first time in his UAB career.
THE SERIES VS. GARDNER-WEBB
UAB holds a 2-0-1 record against the Runnin' Bulldogs, posting an undefeated 3-0-1 record against teams in the Big South Conference.
The Blazers and Runnin' Bulldogs last faced off in 2019 at BBVA Field when UAB overcame a 3-0 halftime deficit to knock off Gardner-Webb 4-3 in regulation. A pair of own goals helped build GWU's first-half lead, but former Blazer Aodhan O'Hara secured a brace to lead the Blazers to victory. O'Hara's second goal of the match came in the 77th minute and put the Blazers in the lead for good.
Current Blazers Brooks Rice and Joseph Buete recorded assists in the 2019 comeback victory. The win also marked head coach Jeff Kinney's second victory as UAB's head coach.
UAB earned a 3-1 home win over GWU in 2015. The first matchup between the two programs resulted in a 1-1 draw back in 2006.
SCOUTING GARDNER-WEBB
