UAB Volleyball Falls to Troy

TROY, Ala. — The UAB volleyball team fell 3-0 (26-24, 25-14, 25-16) to Troy in the weekend finale of the Troy Tournament at Trojan Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Outside hitter Fernanda Maida and defensive specialist Kayla Hardy were named to the All-Tournament Team following the matches this weekend.
Maida had her second double-digit kill match of the weekend, recording 15 on Sunday. Lidya Canturk assisted on 16, while Grace Koper helped on 12.
In a close first set, both teams recorded 15 kills with four lead changes and eight ties. UAB (0-2) held set point 24-23, but Troy took the final three points to win the set 26-24.
Set two saw Troy (1-1) jump out to a 9-0 lead and did not let it go, taking the set 25-14.
The battle continued in third set until the Trojans were able to pull away following the media timeout going on a five-point run to take the set 25-16.
Up next, UAB hosts the Blazer Invitational on Sept. 3-5 in Bartow Arena. The Green and Gold will face Georgia Southern on Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. and Kennesaw State on Sept. 5 at 2 p.m. The Eagles and Owls will play in a neutral site match on Sept. 4 at 2 p.m. Single match tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
