Three Blazers Qualify for NCAA East Preliminary

BIRMINGHAM — Lisa Petkov, Anna Massa and Brittany Floyd of the UAB track and field team qualified for the 2021 NCAA East Preliminaries.
The meet is set to run May 26-29 in Jacksonville, Fla. with North Florida serving as the host. The NCAA Championships is set from June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore. on the campus of the University of Oregon.
"What an earned honor for these three," head coach Kurt Thomas said. "They have worked hard this year and gotten better as the season has gone on. They're competing at a high level, so qualifying for NCAA's shows that."
Petkov is set to run in the 400-meter hurdles after a third-place finish in the Conference USA Championships. The senior posted a time of 58.59 in the meet, which is 24th in the NCAA East. The first round of the hurdles begins at 8:20 p.m. EST on Thursday, May 27.
Massa won gold at the Conference USA Championships with a personal-best jump of 4.13-meters. The mark ranks 26th in the East Division. Massa competes on Thursday, May 27 at 3 p.m. EST.
Floyd is set to compete in the long jump. The senior had a qualifying mark of 6.08-meters, which she set at the Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays. Floyd is set to compete on Thursday, May 27 at 3 p.m. EST.
"They are truly some of the country's best athletes in their events and they'll get the chance to compete at the national prelim meet to prove it," Thomas added. "We are proud and excited for them."
