Baseball’s Late Comeback Falls Short in Series Finale versus UTSA

Austin Bohannon got the start for UAB (15-30, 8-16 C-USA), tossing 5.1 innings and allowed six runs. Hunter Mason picked up the win for UTSA (19-19, 11-12 C-USA) after coming in relief and pitching 4.1 innings with five strikeouts.
Zack Davis led the Blazers at the plate, going 3-for4 with three RBIs. J Paul Fullerton also went 3-for-4 and hit his second home run of the series. Chandler Simpson, Colton Schultz and John Marc Mullins recorded multi-hit days.
The Blazers scored first in the first inning with three runs on three hits. Z. Davis hit a single to right field that brought in Jess Davis. Schultz was brought in on a groundout by Ian Ladner and Z. Davis came home on a Caleb Floyd single.
UTSA brought in its first run in the second inning on a leadoff double from Joshua Lamb. He was brought in on a sacrifice fly by Ian Bailey, to cut the lead to two, 3-1.
Mullins brought in two runs in the third on a single through the right side to extend the lead to 5-1.
The Roadrunners brought it to a one-run game in the fourth after plating three runs on three hits. They took the lead in the sixth powered by a grand slam by Nick Thornquist to double up the Blazers, 10-5.
UAB added two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Both teams brought in a run in the seventh for the 11-8 UTSA lead.
UTSA had a four run eighth, extending their lead to seven. The Green and Gold tacked on a run in the bottom of the inning. The Roadrunners scored their final run in the ninth on a solo home run by Thornquist.
With bases loaded and one out in the ninth, Caleb Floyd singled to right to bring in J. Fullerton from third. J. Davis drew a walk that scored Pate Fullerton. Schultz hit a two-run single to cut UTSA's lead to three. Z. Davis hit a sacrifice fly to score J. Davis for the final run of the game for the final tally of 16-14.

Fans, including Gold Card holders and students, will not be permitted to attend home baseball games played at Young Memorial Field. Attendees will be limited to the player pass list and limited premium spaces.
