UAB Falls to No. 17 Louisiana Tech in Series Finale

RUSTON, La. - The UAB baseball team fell to No. 17 Louisiana Tech, 6-0, in the series finale on Saturday afternoon at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
With the win, Louisiana Tech (20-7, 6-2 C-USA) took the series, 3-1. The game marked the first time since May 4, 2018 that UAB (10-16, 3-5 C-USA) was shut out in a Conference USA contest.
Austin Bohannon (0-2) took the loss for the Blazers, while LA Tech starter Jared Whorff improved to 5-1 on the season with the win.
Jess Davis recorded his team-best 13th stolen base in the series-capper, in addition to notching a base hit. Chandler Simpson, Zack Davis, Thomas Johnston, Darryl Buggs, Joseph Kiel and David Harris also had a base hit apiece for the Green and Gold.
Louisiana Tech opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second when Kyle Hasler registered a 2-RBI single to center, scoring both Manny Garcia and Steele Netterville.
In the third, the Bulldogs tacked on another run with a Steele Netterville sac fly to center before Adarius Myers tallied a solo home run in the fourth to give LA Tech a 4-0 advantage.
The Blazers trailed by five after as many innings, with Louisiana Tech scoring one run in the fifth.
LA Tech added an insurance run in the eighth when Parker Bates scored Taylor Young on a sacrifice fly to right field, putting the Bulldogs up by the eventual final score of 6-0.
UAB returns to the diamond on Friday, April 9, as the Blazers head to Hattiesburg, Miss. for a four-game series with Southern Miss. Friday's first pitch at Pete Taylor Park is scheduled for 6 p.m.
