HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The UAB beach volleyball team was upset by Southern Miss 3-2 in the opening round of the CCSA Tournament on Friday morning at John Hunt Park in Huntsville.

The Blazers (12-14) fell behind 3-0 as USM (10-21) won on courts three, four and one to take a 3-0 lead. Annie Pringle and Adriana Pereira tallied UAB's first point with victory on court five.

SalliAnne Napolitano and Arden Copping then registered a three set victory on court two for UAB's other point of the match, but it was not enough as USM defeated the Blazers for the first time.

UAB returns to action on Saturday in a win-or-go-home scenario. The Blazers await the loser of this afternoon's match between No. 12 FIU and No. 14 Florida Atlantic.
