BIRMINGHAM – After a weekend off from competition, the UAB beach volleyball team returns to the sand this Friday and Saturday, April 2-3, to participate in the Southern Miss Invitational. The Blazers are scheduled play two matches each day.
UAB (6-11) will face a pair of CCSA opponents on Friday against ULM and Tulane. This will be the third time facing Tulane this year with each team winning once. Saturday's action includes the Blazers facing Southern Miss and Spring Hill.
The Blazers look to get back on the winning track having lost seven in a row, but all to teams that are currently ranked in the AVCA Top 20 national poll. All of UAB's 11 losses this season have come against teams that have appeared in the national rankings at some point throughout the year.
SalliAnne Napolitano continues to lead the team with 10 victories, while five Blazers in Rachel Tam, Mikayla Law-Heese, Emma Andraka, Dylynn Otte and Ella Alexander all have seven wins apiece. For Tam and Law-Heese, all of their action has come on court one for the Blazers.
UAB's win against Tulane in Gulf Shores last month snapped a 10-match losing streak to the Green Wave. Despite Tulane leading the all-time series 14-5, the Blazers have fared well against the other teams in the field this weekend. UAB is 7-4 all-time against ULM and has won each of the last three matches, while the Blazers are 2-0 against Southern Miss and 4-0 against Spring Hill.
UAB opens action at 10 a.m. on Friday against ULM, following by playing Tulane at 4 p.m. Saturday sees UAB play Spring Hill at 10 a.m. and Southern Miss at 2 p.m.
