UAB Beach Volleyball Defeats ULM; Falls to Tulane

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB beach volleyball team split a pair of conference matches on Friday with a 4-1 victory over ULM and a 3-2 loss to Tulane on the opening day of the Southern Miss Invitational.
With two victories today, senior SalliAnne Napolitano moved into a tie for eighth place on UAB's career wins list with 41 total. Rachel Tam and Mikayla Law-Heese also won both of their matches on court one today.
The Blazers began the tournament with a 4-1 victory over ULM. UAB won every match aside from court two, with two of its four victories coming in three sets.
On court one, Rachel Tam and Mikayla Law-Heese won their fifth three-set match of the season with a 21-17, 16-21, 15-10 triumph. UAB's top duo is now 5-4 in three setters this season.
Court three also went three as Annie Pringle and Jenna Gathright defeating Katie McKay and Anna Demmer 21-12, 21-23, 15-8. Napolitano and Arden Copping on court four (21-18, 21-14) and Jessica Ennis and Pearl Moore on court five (21-19, 21-11) took care of their opponents in straight sets.
In the afternoon match, four of the five matches went three sets. Tulane raced out to a 2-0 lead with three set triumphs on courts four and five.
Tam and Law-Heese then got UAB on the board with a straight set 21-17, 21-13 victory over Eva Toruella and Kendall Peters. Napolitano and Copping then evened the match with a 21-18, 16-21, 15-13 victory on court three.
However, with the match even a 2-2, the Green Wave was able to win a three set match on court two, 19-21, 21-14, 15-9 to secure the victory.
The Blazers are back in action on Saturday with matches at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. against Spring Hill and Southern Miss.
