Softball Opens 12-Game Home Stand on Wednesday with North Alabama

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB softball team is set to open a 12-game home stand this Wednesday, March 10, when the Blazers host North Alabama at Mary Bowers Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
Following the midweek with UNA, UAB turns around the next day to host the Blazer Classic. The tournament begins on Thursday against Ball State at 5 p.m., and UAB also plays Samford and Southern Illinois throughout the weekend.
UAB's four-game Conference USA opening series against Charlotte on March 27-28 is sandwiched in between non-conference games at home against Alabama (March 17) and Troy (March 31).
The Blazers (8-9) look to bounce back into the win column following an 0-4 weekend at the Georgia Tournament in Athens. However, UAB returns to the friendly confines of Mary Bowers Field where the Blazers are 6-2 this season.
Sophomore catcher Sierra Frazier continues to pace the Blazer offense with a .295 batting average and four home runs. Along with leading the team in hitting, she has a team-high .614 slugging percentage and a .436 on base percentage.
The Lions own a 10-3 overall record which includes a two-game sweep over C-USA opponent Louisiana Tech. Danielle de Ruiter (.357) and Georgia Land (.310) lead UNA in batting, while Megan Garst is 4-2 with a 1.52 ERA and 42 strikeouts to pace the pitching staff.
