HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The UAB volleyball team fell to Southern Miss, 3-1, Monday afternoon. The Blazers move to 7-6, 6-4 CUSA on the season, while the Golden Eagles improve to 8-5, 3-3 CUSA.
"While today did not go our way, Southern Miss did a great job siding out at a high percentage," head coach Betsy Freeburg said. "We have depended on our serve all season and struggled finding a rhythm behind the line in both matches, we didn't capitalize when we got them out of system."
Southern Miss took sets one (25-23), three (25-20) and closed the match out in set four, 25-20. The Blazers won set two, 25-14.
Fernanda Maida, Alex Kells, Lexy Thomas and Abby Carlile combined for 33 kills on the day. Maida led the team with 17, followed by Kells with 16.
"Alex, Fernanda, Lexy and Abby all did a great job contributing with kills and hitting at a high efficiency," added Freeburg. "We will certainly use these next two weeks to get better and look to finish out the regular season strong at home."
The Blazers return to the court for the final regular season matchup against UTSA on March 21 and 22 at Bartow Arena.
