BIRMINGHAM — The UAB volleyball team travels to Hattiesburg, Miss. for a two-match series against Southern Miss on Sunday and Monday.

The series dates back to 1981. From 2005-2008, UAB had a nine-match win streak, the longest streak between the two teams. The last meeting came in 2019 in a 3-0 win for the Blazers at Bartow Arena.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Southern Miss sits fourth in the Conference USA West Division standings behind Rice, UTEP and UAB. The Golden Eagles rank first in the conference in digs per set (16.87) and attacks per set (37.62). Duquesne Moratzka leads the offensive side for Southern Miss with 10.82 kills per set.
THE LAST TIME OUT
UAB completed a series sweep over Louisiana Tech at Bartow Arena. Over the two matches, Fernanda Maida registered 22 kills, two service aces and four blocks. Tatijana Fucka led the defensive end with eight blocks for the Blazers.
SERVING IT UP
Brianna Muller and Grace Koper lead the Blazers with 13 service aces on the season. As a team, UAB ranks second in the conference with 1.70 aces per set.
STATS RANKINGS
Maida ranks 10th in the nation in attacks per set (12.65) and 27th in kills per set (4.41).

"We are looking forward to this road trip to Southern Miss. They are a team that likes to run a lot of different offensive plays and patterns which will be a challenge for us defensively since it is very different from what we do. We will have to continue to be disciplined and attentive in our defense while working to be efficient when opportunities arise offensively. We have played wight conference matches so far and been battle tested on the road. We look forward to using those experiences to our advantage this weekend."
