No. 20 UAB Falls to No. 12 FAU, Florida Gulf Coast

BIRMINGHAM – The No. 20 UAB beach volleyball team lost a pair of matches to No. 12 Florida Atlantic and Florida Gulf Coast on the opening day of the FAU Beach Bash in Boca Raton on Friday.
UAB (6-9) fell to FAU by the score of 4-1, then dropped a heartbreaker to FGCU 3-2 in the afternoon match.
After going down 2-0 to FAU with losses on courts four and five, Annie Pringle and Jenna Gathright registered a straight set 21-18, 21-14 victory over Kenley Adams and Courtney Moon to make the score 2-1.
The Blazers pushed the Owls to the brink and almost pulled off the come-from-behind victory, but FAU was able to win in three sets on both courts one and two for the victory.
Against FGCU, Ella Alexander and Jessica Ennis notched a 21-18, 21-18 victory on court five, and UAB's top pair of Rachel Tam and Mikayla Law-Heese earned a three set victory on court one 17-21, 21-13, 15-9.
However, FGCU was able to win on courts two, three four for the victory. Both courts three and four went three sets.
The Blazers return to the sand on Saturday with matches against No. 1 Florida State and No. 14 Stetson.
