BIRMINGHAM – Fresh off earning its first national ranking in program history, the No. 20 UAB beach volleyball team returns to the sand this Friday and Saturday at the FAU Beach Bash in Boca Raton.
The Blazers (6-7) look to earn more victories over nationally ranked opponents this weekend when they take on No. 1 Florida State, No. 12 Florida Atlantic, No. 14 Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast. If the Blazers can defeat a ranked team in Boca, it would be the first time in program history that UAB has defeated multiple ranked teams in the same season. All seven of UAB's losses this year have come against ranked teams.
UAB was very competitive against some of the nation's top teams last week at the March to May in Gulf Shores. Dylynn Otte and Emma Andraka registered a pair of wins on court two over No. 18 Georgia State No. 20 Tulane, while Sarah Dickson and Ella Alexander also notched two victories with wins over No. 11 Grand Canyon and No. 20 Tulane on court five.
It is a challenging slate for the Blazers this weekend as UAB is a combined 2-18 against the field this weekend. UAB is 1-3 all-time against FAU and 1-4 against Stetson. The Blazers will look to notch their first victory over Florida State (0-9) and Florida Gulf Coast (0-2) in Boca.
UAB Schedule:
Friday, March 19:
#20 UAB vs. #12 Florida Atlantic – 9 a.m.
#20 UAB vs. Florida Gulf Coast – 5 p.m.
Saturday, March 20:
#20 UAB vs. #1 Florida State – 9 a.m.
#20 UAB vs. #14 Stetson – 11 a.m.
