Smith Leads UAB in Round One at FAU Paradise Invitational

BIRMINGHAM – True freshman Emilia Smith tied her collegiate career low with a one under 71 on Monday to lead the UAB women's golf team in the opening round of the FAU Paradise Invitational in Boca Raton.

Smith is tied for 12th overall entering this afternoon's second round with three other players, and she is just four shots off the lead which is held by Vanderbilt's Auston Kim (-5). Smith tallied three birdies and two bogies in her round.

The Blazers shot 304 (+16) as a unit and are in 11th place overall. UAB is one shot ahead of Southern Miss, who is the only other Conference USA team in the field aside from UAB and the host Owls.

Shelly Chen (+4), Tia Teiniketo (+5), Karlee Allen (+8) and Caroline Waldrop (+12) rounded out UAB's efforts in the opening round.
