Women’s Golf Begins Spring Competition at FAU Paradise Invite

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's golf team is set to open its spring season this coming Monday and Tuesday, February 8-9, at the FAU Paradise Invitational in Boca Raton, Fla.
The tournament will be played at Boca Loga Country Club and is a par 72 that plays 6,076 yards.
Along with the Blazers and the Owls, the field consists of: No. 28 Arkansas State, Iowa, Loyola, Maryland, Michigan State, North Florida, Ohio State, South Florida, No. 41 Southern Miss, No. 13 Vanderbilt and Xavier.
UAB's lineup features senior Tia Teiniketo, freshmen Karlee Allen, Emilia Smith and Shelly Chen, and sophomore Caroline Waldrop. These five will play together in one group of five to help mitigate the risk of COVID-19.
The Blazers played four tournaments in the fall with their best finish of fourth place coming on two separate occasions at the USA Intercollegiate and the Hoover Invitational.
Teiniketo (71.8) and Chen (72.3) led the charge for UAB throughout the fall. Both finished top 10 in three of four tournaments, while Teiniketo won the Callaway Gardens Invite and shot a school record 66 in the final round.
Following this week's tournament in Boca, the Blazers will return to the Sunshine State the following week to participate in the First Coast Classic hosted by North Florida on Feb. 15-16 in Jacksonville, Fla.
