Blazers Fall to Southern Miss in C-USA Opener

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB men's tennis team fell to C-USA foe Southern Miss, 4-3, in the conference opener on Saturday afternoon at Lakeshore Tennis Center.
UAB (2-3, 0-1 C-USA) won three singles matches, but Southern Miss (1-0, 1-0 C-USA) did the same, in addition to claiming the doubles point.
In doubles competition, the Golden Eagles won on court three (Olimjon Nabiev/Alan Sanson def. Parker Bradbary/Daniel Janko, 6-2) and court two (Alexander Gima/Matthieu Peres def. Thanos Spyropolous/Vojtech Podzemny, 6-4), while the Blazers were victorious on court one (Michal Lusovsky/Roman Postolka def. Hsiang Yi Wang/Antoine Audrain, 6-4).
In singles play, UAB evened the score out of the gate as Lusovsky came away with a court one win against Gima, 6-3, 6-0. Southern Miss took the lead back on court three with a Nabiev win against Nikola Puric, 6-0, 6-4, before the Green and Gold evened the score once again with a court five victory by Podzemny, 7-6, 6-1 over Audrain.
The Golden Eagles took a 3-2 lead in the match on court four, as Peres defeated Spyrouplous, 6-1, 6-4, just before UAB forced yet another tie in match score, 3-3, as Postolka overcame Sanson, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 in the No. 2 slot.
Southern Miss clinched the match on court six as Christopher Cahour topped Giovani Pasini, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
UAB returns to the courts on Friday as the Blazers travel to Tennessee to take on Chattanooga, with first serve from the Manker-Patten Tennis Complex set for 2:30 p.m.
